Quick thought

I had a revelation at work today, what is it about religion that makes the religious feel their culture is superior to that of other groups? For example, I recently discussed homosexuality with a coworker dead set that it is a choice to be attracted to someone of the same gender. No matter how much evidence was presented to the contrary, this individual still would not budge an inch on said preconceived notions. I cannot help but wonder how someone can so blatantly ignore so much evidence. Shortly thereafter, said individual inferred that due to my lack of religious belief, I am somehow living in a moral vacuum. I understand the underlying assumptions which lead individuals to these conclusions, and I understand why they hold them, however, I cannot grasp the concept of ignoring mounds of evidence which contradicts these points.

It’s evolutionary, my dear boy. They’re brought up to believe that evidence against their god is specifically there to test their faith. As a child they have programmed to believe anything an adult says no matter how ridiculous. This way they learn without testing. If they tested everything then nobody would live past age 5.

It’s the eternal joke. Evolution makes people believe in religion. Religion makes people disbelieve evolution.

Well.. if they’re willing to believe that tens of thousands of Hebrews practically ‘ninjaed’ their way around the Sinai Peninsula for forty years because ‘absence of evidence is not evidence of absence'(archeological evidence that is) AND they’re willing to believe that the City of Nazareth existed at that time period in spite of archeological evidence against this THEN you are stuck arguing against their traditional beliefs, WHICH unfortunately, neither need nor want FACTS.

You’ve got to be taught to hate – hate doesn’t come naturally.
