His Mediocrity Archbishop Timothy Dolan is violating one of my rules again, “Better to be quiet and thought an idiot than to speak and remove all doubt.”
He states: “Hard-wired into us is a dictionary, and the dictionary defines marriage as between one man, one woman for life, please God, leading to the procreation of human life.”
The most basic definition of marriage is between one man and one woman for life? I thought the most basic definition of “marriage” was “entered voluntarily into a conjugal state” if you want to include such phrases as “marriage of technology and business” and “marriage of work and pleasure.”
It gets worse, though, he goes on to say, “And if we begin to tamper with the very definition of marriage, then we’re going to be in big trouble. We’re not anti-gay — we’re pro the most basic definition of marriage.”
Let’s get this straight, you think denying two individuals who love and care for each other the ability to enter jointly into a contractual arrangement in which they can extend work benefits, extend insurance, and have joint ownership is somehow not anti-gay? How do you come to that conclusion? I’m not sure…
It gets worse:[about operating a nursery for children born at a prison] “That’s pro-life at its best, and that’s where we gain credibility for our message — if we are giving the kind of creative, life-giving alternative to what we call the ‘culture of death.’ So it’s not just that we’re constantly condemning something, it’s that we’re proposing an alternative.”
A “culture of death?” Having an abortion is to enter into a culture of death? Having sex with little kids who later kill themselves is a “culture of death.” Women dying because they cannot afford children and so must have back-alley abortions results in a “culture of death.” Children growing up in poverty because their only source of income is an eighteen year old mother that never went to college, never finished high school, and never went to trade school results in a “culture of death.” Worshiping some deity that kills his own son because he fucked up results in a “culture of death.” Teaching that “all humans are bad and we must try to be like sky daddy that killed his kid” is a bit of an endorsement of filicide.
