Anyone having read my blog at all knows I loathe inaccurate science reporting like this.
Let’s see what’s wrong with it; my comments in bold
LAFAYETTE — At least one more case of Type A influenza has been confirmed in an area parochial school student.(So far, so good)
Type A influenza has been linked to swine flu, a highly contagious strain with no vaccine.
This specific form of swine flu IS a strain of influenza A, specifically, it’s A (H1N1). It’s not LINKED to swine flu, that’s like saying HIV is linked to a lentivirus. HIV is a TYPE of lentivirus.
This morning, parents at Catholic High in New Iberia were alerted that a middle school student at the school tested positive for Type A influenza, said Timothy Uhl, Catholic High principal.
The school will remain open, but parents were given the option to check out their children. So far, at least 50 children — the majority middle school age and at least 10 elementary students — were checked out of the school by their parents, Uhl said.
Panicky parents, maybe if these kids would stay in school, they might learn why their parents are behaving irrationally. Then again, it IS a Catholic school.
