What I’ve Learned

  1. When a company is on a hiring frenzy with no signs of recent expansion, chances are, they are filling positions after a mass exodus.
  2. When a company offers a 50% higher salary than any others; it’s looking to fill positions quickly.
  3. Certain company policies should be red-flags; non-disclosure agreements, do-not-compete agreements, etc.
  4. Always look into the background of a potential employer; look for pending legislation.
  5. Companies will always look for ways to cut corners, if something looks incorrect or inaccurate, ask for an explanation.
  6. When a hazard exists in the workplace, if you report the situation and it is not resolved, gather evidence of it.
  7. If choosing between two companies, one of which is a well respected corporation and the other is a small company offering to pay more with all other employees only being there for 6 months or less, go with the well respected one.

    “non-disclosure agreements, do-not-compete agreements, etc.”
^these are sound business principals, not red-flags

Yes, but having a researcher or analyst sign such things is certainly a red flag. I.e.-a scientist researches micro-encapsulation; a company needing such a person hires him/her. This individual cannot work for any other company producing micro-encapsulated products similar to the previous company.

yes, they can, just not within a certain geographic area (such as New Orleans) and for a specific amount of time (normally 2 years).
