Do reporters not ask questions?

Here’s a question for the author of this article: why not find out if (or how) the authors of the paper propose to counter repopulation and natural selection? I mean, I don’t know much about mosquitoes, but I do know the females of many species require a blood meal only to lay eggs.  I also know that without it, the flightless females will end up not reproducing and not passing on the “no-fly” gene. If insufficient numbers of males aren’t released, populations will not see any effects. This means huge numbers of engineered males would be needed and repeatedly released (read:”extremely expensive”). Then, if not sustained to regional extermination, (just like in the “sterile insect technique) areas will be repopulated.

Also, can you at least wait for the paper to be PUBLISHED so people can get a chance to read it?

The link is broken. What is the article you are talking about?

    Yeah that works.

I suspect that the AP report was based off of some press release. The reporter likely never talked to any of the scientists in question.

I suspect you are correct, it also seems like they didn’t read the article itself…what ever happened to doing research for news stories?
