Toy Soldiers to Fight Terrorism

Ok, so I read about this Bossier Parish “Operation Exodus,” which is frankly terrifying. Wonder why?

As evidenced by recent terror threats, it is apparent that homegrown terrorists are in our midst. With the easy accessibility of the Internet, it is quite possible that these local and international terrorists can form a national or multiple location attack on our nation at any given moment. And no matter whether we are a direct target or not, fear and panic will still permeate our community. Control will have to be regained to ensure the safety of our residents. That is where Operation Exodus comes into play. It utilizes preventive measures to safeguard Bossier Parish from the fear and outcry that will inevitably transpire.

Let’s analyze this for a moment. If a major terrorist attack targets the Pentagon, how will citizens in Louisiana react? Oh, that’s right, we just sit glued to the TV. I’d assume most people, in the time of a disaster, would try to HELP the people affected, not hunt down ” ‘dem terrists” as part of a sick revenge fantasy. Do they think the best way to keep control of a situation is to pass out shotguns and drive around in an armored vehicle? Well, let’s look at the name for a moment, it’s named after the book of Exodus. Want to know about this part of that lovely text? It’s the part about escaping slavery (the Israelites were probably never slaves in Egypt…)  to walk the desert for decades. From one tyrant to another; meet the new boss, same as the old boss. But that’s not how the religious groups see this text: it is the escape from enslavement; the trials which accompany escape from a dictator.

Why would you name a paramilitary group after this text? Well, I’m not going to pretend to know what the sheriff was thinking, but I can tell you it isn’t because of the terrorist threat to Bossier Parish is exceedingly great. The only target of any specific value would be Barksdale AFB, and while that may be a legitimate problem, it isn’t something the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, let alone a bunch of ex-cops with shotguns would be capable of handling. Let’s think for a minute:

Terrorists target Barksdale AFB, get nukes, and intend to blow up some major city, do you really think the MPs on the military base are going to not respond? Do you really think the various branches of the US military won’t be called in? Do you really think the FBI, NSA, CIA, DOD, and Homeland Security won’t swamp the area with agents and military? Being from Louisiana, I am going to speculate a bit and state this is actually a cover story, but a cover story for what?

What would they want to arm lots of “good ol’ boys” with shotguns for? Well, I’d suggest it’s part of the “libral threat ta ‘Merica, we ought ta buy us some guns and protect ourselves and our rights, they gonna take our guns, Bibles, freedoms from our cold dead hands” movement. I am not comforted by the idea of right wing religinuts running around with shotguns enforcing absolute authoritarian control over a populace because of a terrorist attack. I suppose it’s just because they have no problem taking away the freedoms of other people.
